What is the core of Sherlock and Moriarty's relationship?

I think it's 'the great game' and there's a great sense that the two of them enjoy it, absolutely. The fun of it is that you shouldn't have a [back-story]. I hate being spoon-fed things, in that sense. I think we shouldn't know... I don't think the question should ever be answered. (x)

i could understand the appeal before series two just because we didn’t know much about either of their characters and people were into their ~dark molly~ shit which for the record i always thought was fucking stupid but i didn’t have any basis then to properly detest it. but now?! the only way it could possibly work is by completely disregarding the development made for both of their characters in TRF and I LOVE BOTH THEIR CANONICALLY ESTABLISHED SELVES TOO MUCH FOR THAT SHIT.
